International Seminar on the Social & Literary Importance of Travelogues

 


The Department of Arabic and Persian, University of Allahabad has organised a 2 day International Seminar on "Literary and Social importance of Travelogues" on 19th and 20th September, 2017 in collaboration with Sahitya Academy, Iran Culture House New Delhi, Embassy of Afghanistan, New Delhi, Kazemi Foundation and National Council for the Promotion of Urdu language (Govt. of India).


Prof. Rattan Lan Hangloo, the Vice Chancellor of University of Allahabad presided the inaugural session while Dr. Mohd. Mirwaiz Balkhi, the Counsellor of the Embassy of Afghanistan was the Chief Guest and Mr. Hojatullah Abedi, the Deputy Cultural Counsellor of I.R.Iran was the Guest of Honour and Prof. S.H. Qasemi delivered the keynote address as well.
The program was started by the recitation of the Holy Quran.

 

Following the opening ceremony, Dr. Saleh Rashid, the head of Arabic and Persian department, Allahabad University welcomed & thanked the participants of the seminar.


She said that the travelogues are one of the rich resources of literature as well as social life and the relations between nations and tribes.

 

She further said that the comparative study of old travelogues with contemporary writings, we can find a deeper understanding of different stages of life and ages."

 

She finally expressed his hope that the results of this seminar will lead us to a better understanding of our traditions.

Hujjatollah Abedi, the Deputy Cultural Councillor of I. R. Iran, New Delhi has expressed his views on the "Pathology of Travelogues Writing".

 


Abedi referred to travel journalism as one of the most important tools for transferring travel experiences and knowledge of each other, but noted the authors dedication and time and place will remain an important element.

Professor Abdul Ali, former Dean of the faculty of Theology University of Aligarh spoke on several Arabic travelogues and India and Arab relations.


Professor Sharif Hussein Qasemi, pointing out the importance of travelogues and said that the fact is this that all travelogues had been written because of this it was habit, tradition a common culture.

Mr. Professor K. Mishra, the dean of the Faculty of Arts, said: "Travelogues are like an impression of an eyewitness, so its a little bit different from history.

 

He also added that it is possible to find out the authors philosophical approach through travelogues.

Professor Azarmidukht Safavi, AMU emphasized on the importance of travelogues, introducing Mohammad Husseins travelogue and its features, adding that learning all the terms and expressions of a language is very difficult, but the author of this accurately used all these terms in his travelogue and provided important information.

Professor Irteza Karim, chairman NCPUL, emphasized on the importance of the travelogue noting that history should be analyzed from the viewpoint of the travelogue. "If we do that, we will easily achieve many facts, of course, we must take into account." At this time of communication technology, most of the travelogues are being written and being uploaded n social network. He concluded: "I hope all the articles presented here will be published after editing and review, and will be available to researchers."
